Want to help those in need this Christmas and beyond? Then consider a voluntary role as a Trustee and utilise your skills for good causes.

Is it for you?

  • Do you have regular time you can commit? (if you only have ad-hoc time then perhaps a trustee is not the right role as this is a regular commitment but you can still volunteer)
  • What difference can you make? Which skills and knowledge are you willing to share?
  • Have you volunteered before? Do you know fully what it entails? (each charity has different needs and causes so think which one you could really add value to and help)

Top Tips:

  • Research charities that are close to your heart and have campaigns and a mission you truly believe in and want to support
  • Spend time with the charities and the people they are supporting
  • Talk with the charity managers and see what support they need. It may be wise to volunteer first and then if you feel you can add more value on a more strategic and longer term level then put yourself forward as a trustee
  • If you are currently working full time we recommend you check with your employer that there is no conflict of interest with external responsibility. If you are unemployed or looking to make a career switch then think about how you can use and develop skills in your desired industry whilst helping others.
